SOLDIERS' DWELLINGS.
■ 4 . ADVANCE INCREASED BY £150. An increase in the amount of money that may be advanced for building purposes to returned men was urged at the last general meeting of the CUvistohurch Returned Soldiers' Association, a resolution being carried asking the Government to increase the amount at present allowable under section 2 of the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act trom £750 to £1000. Tho Act, Besides the provision of £750 for building, also provides for an advance of £250 for the purpose of buying a section. The secretary of the Association (has received the following reply from the Minister of Lands, the Hon. IX H. Guthrie"The advisability of increasing the amount that may be advanced for the purpose of erecting dwellings has been recognised, and Cabinet has instructed mo to amend t'ho regulations, increasing the amount to £900. This does not affect the advance of £250 that may bo made for the purchase of a section.'' The total advance a man may receive has thus been increased from £1000 to £1150.
