Morris, secretary of tho Post and Telegraph Department, has ; been engaged -in Government business in London during the past week or two. INlr and Mrs Morris spent about three ! weeks in Canada, during which time Mr Morris made r. j>oint of enquiring into matters relating to the postal service generally. They left for Madrid at the end of last week, where Mr -•[orris is attending the Universal Postal Convention. On tho completion of the Convention they intend to spend a short time in France and Italy, joining tho homeward-bound vessel at Naples, on December Gth. Mr E. A. Shrimpton. chief engineer of tho New Zealand Telegraph Department," has been fully occupied since his arrival in England "with Departmental business, amongst which are the investigation into the development of wireless telegraphy in this country, and tho shipping of materials for New Zealand. _ This week he ha.s gono to Scotland in connexion with his work. On liis return he will go over to Antwerp to call on tho "Western Eloctric Company, tho makers of automatic telephones. While in Belgium lie Mill take* the opportunity of visiting his son's grave, who was killed at Messincs in April of 1018. Ho leaves England at the end of October, and will sail from Vancouver on January 4th. During his stay in London. Mr P. Selig (manager of ihe Christchurch Press Co., Ltd.). has paid several visits to an ex-Christchurch resident Mr E. W. Roper, who has been in this country for some years. Mr Roper is, unfortunately, at the present time in rather a bad state of health, but be lias enjoyed, at his flat in Piccadilly, a chat about old Now Zealand friends and New Zealand interests. _ That liis sympathies are still with bis former homo is shown by the fact that probably the bull: of his estate will eventually benefit tho cause of education in Christchurch. and will bo left for the founding of Science Scholarships. Mr G. A. Pascoe. of tho firm of Messrs Anderson, Limited, engineers (Christchurch) is visiting England on behalf of his firm, his object being to purchase maehinory and make enquiries into the most recent manufacturing methods, and to gather information of the various ways in which welfare work is conducted for tho benefit of working people generally. _ Ho travelled by way of San Francisco, and during tho fourteen weeks that he spent in America be visited_ many of the leading engineering firms in that country. Ifo intends to stay in England and Scotland until the end of the year, and will then visit- the United States again, prior to bis return to New Zealand. Mr H. J. Beswick (Christohurch), who has been in England for some time, expects to leave by the' Olympic on tho 29th of September to catch tho Tofua, which sails from San Francisco on October 18th. Mr M. S. H. Manning (Christchurch) is at present in this country on a business visit. Ho travelled by woy of Java, Straits Settlements, Hong Kong. China, Japan, and from there by woy of Canada. Last week he went over to Paris, and visited the various battlefields. He is leaving for New York on the 29th of this month. ' Mr Charles N. "Worsley (Auckland) has taken up his residence for tho time being in England. Ho will probably make his headquarters somewhere in the south-west counties, from whom ho will make periodical trips to tho 'Continent and to other parts of England, to got material for pictures which he intends to send out to New Zealand. Since his arrival he lias been making some studies in and about London. Mr H. L. Bond, formerly of tho literarv staff of the "Auckland Star," who came Home in February last to take r.p the appointment of private secretary to Mnior Sir Robert "Walker, Bt., Sand Hutton. lias received a commission in the sth Yorkshire Regiment.
