IRISH PROBLEM.

Before, the Platform Committee at Chicago, Mr J. TV alsh pleaded for . a plank pledging full formal official recognition of Ireland's elected Government by the United States. Telegrams from Slontreal report vigorous opposition to the proposals of Irish sympathisers that the American Federation of Labour should demand the withdrawal of British troops from Ireland. Several Canadian delegates announced they would combat such. & move on British soil, while others intimated they would withdraw if the question was brought up before tho Convention for debate.

LONDON", June V: A Sinn Fein tribunal in County Clare sentenced three men to a, fortnight's detention on Mutton Island (a fortified islet in Galway Bay) for refusing to obey the tribunal's order to rebuild a farm wall which they had demolished. The Constabulary learned of the incident, and sent a boat to rescue the marooned trio. The prisoners, however, stoned their would-be rescuers and, declined to bo released, declaring that, as they were citizens of the Irish Itepublie the Constabulary had no authority to intervene. The Constabulary withdrew. • The prisoners had ample provision?.
