» -. -. ADVISORY COMMITTEE SET UP. (rr.ESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) "WELLINGTON, June 9. Approval lias been given for the setting of a Commit-too of Defonco to consider and report confidentially to the Minister of Defence on problems of defence and important policy questions connected therewith. The committeo is constituted as follows: — President, Alajor-Genoral Sir E. "W. C. Chavtor: members, Major-General Sir A. 11. Russell, Major-Gcneral Sir A. "W. Robin, Brigadier-General G. S. Richardson. Colonel Ja-s. J. Esson; secretary, Lieut.-Colonel R. B. Smvthe. Tho committee has power to add to its members, and to call experts to givo evidence. The functions of the committee are:— fl) To consider questions and elaborate plans of defence from the point of view of the military forces, naval forces, air force, and Imperial defence. (2) To advise the Minister regarding the allocation of funds to be devoted to defence. (3) To obtain and collect information from t-ho various Departments of State. (4) To prepare any documents required by the Minister. (ol To furnish such advice as might be given. (6) To keep adequate records for tho permanent information of the Minister.
