INFLUENZA.
e ORDINARY CASES NOT TO BE NOTIPISD. fSPECIAL TO "TFTE PRESS.") WELL!XGTO'N, June 9. The Department of IToalth has decided thai ordinary influenza cases need not, after- a week or so, be notified to the authorities. Pneumonic cases and verv severe eases, however, will still bo notifiable. The cost of notifications under the present system for the past three weeks amounted to no less a sum than £153G, and probably ninety per cent, of the caws were nothing but severe colds. The new practice is the one already adopted in other countries, and the statistics therefrom will be much more valuable from .a departmental point of view. The daily bulletin issued by the HenltU Department showed an increase in the number of influenza cases in Canterbury and -the "West- Coast recorded frotri noon on Tuesday to the same hour yesterday, thin beinn: principally due to an outbreak in the Mt. Magdala Home. The eases totalled 30, 79 being cf the mild typo, and one pneumonic. There were seven mild cases in Inangahua, on? in Greymouth. 65 in North Canterbury, four in Ashburton, and two in South Canterbury. There was one case of pneumonic influenza in North Canterbury. j
