FATAL MOTOR COLLISION.

THE CORONER'S VERDICT. (PItESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) PALMERSTON NORTH, June 8. .At the inquiry into the recent motor smash at (Sandon, whereby A. E. Eglinton was killed and E. A. Penny and F. Kidman died subsequently from injuries. the Coroner found that Eglinton's car was on the correct side of the road, and that up to a minute before the collision ho had his lights burning. As to the speed of tho car, Eglinton had not much pace. Newth's car was travelling twenty-five miles an hour, and probably more. The Coroner did not consider thirty miles an hour, or a little over, excessivo at the particular place where the collision occurred. Ife thought there was failure on the part of the driver of Newth's car to keep a proper lookout. If the driver had taken ordinary c-aro he must have seen lCglin ton's car lighted and been prepared, therefore ho found that there was some negligence on Newth's part in failing to keep a proper lookout. Under the circumstances he would return an open verdict that deceased died from injuries sustained in a motor collision at Sandon on May 20th. The Coroner added that ho would like to remark on the reckless driving which undoubtedly was carried on throughout the country, and which caused the 1 accidents they read about so often. To his mind these accidents were the result of carelessness, and it was necessary that some action should be taken to prevent reckless driving. ANOTHER COLLISION. Tho above is one of many collisions reported in these columns during the past twelve months. These collisions are c&rtaitv to cost the car owner a considerable sum unless wo take tho risk tinder ono of our comprehensive policies. The premium is moderate for a policy which insures the earowner against loss by collision, causing daniago to his car, or claims for damage to persons or their property, and loss by fire.
