INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
I 9 — MONTHLY MEETING. The executive of the Industrial Association met last night, Mr W. J. Jenkin presiding. It was decided to appoint Mr Denys Hoare as secretary. It was reported that the Progress League had agreed to place tho services of its ol&cers a-t tho disposal of tho Association whon required. The chairman stated that tho Progress League intended sending a deputation to tho West Coast v/iih a view of encouraging trade between tho Coast and Canterbup*, and it was suggested that tho Association should send delegates. It was dccided, after discussion, that the Association should send delegates providing that tho League's plan of campaign does not conflict with tho policy of the Association. Tho Chamber of Commerce wrote regarding long-distance telephones, and advising that anv delays should be reported immediately to ••complaints." The letter was received with thanks. _ _ Mr Jenkin was appointed tho Association's delegate to the Progress League. The action of the president in agreeing to accept municipal debentures, bearing interest at 5£ per cent., and with a currency of 36 years, in, payment of the Association's shares in the Canterbury Hall Company, was approved. .. The chairman announced that the annual meeting would be held in the Chamber of Commerce on July 13th. Mr H. J. Marrinor is to give an address on "Commerce and its Value "to the Dominion,'" and Messrs H. Holland and P. 11. Climie are to epealt on ''The Progress of Canterbury from an Industrial Standooint." It was decided to forward a letter "of thanks to Mr Albert Kayo for his offcr to provide the high tea which is to precede the annual meeting. Mr Charters reported tho result of his canvass for members and funds, and he was accorded a vote of thanks. Mr J A. Frosticla stated that the Progress League had suggested that delegates from the the Chamber of Commerce and the Association ehould meet tho Canterbury members of Parliament and discuss with them the brocd question of the development of Canterbury. It was suggested, in order to secure uniformity in respect of the mattars to be discussed, that thers ehould be a preliminary meeting of the delegates o: tho three bodies. Messrs Black, Jenkin. and White were appointed the Association's delegates. On Mr Drayton's motion a committee was set up to consider the question of nominations fcr the new executive. Mr Dravton suggested that the new executive ehould take into consideration the publication of a quarterlv bulletin, giving par- , ticulars of the Association's actmbcs. |
