$ _ SUMNER SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Sumner School Committee Mr Lumsden, chairman, presided over the following attendance:—Mcsdamcs D. Bates and "VV. G. .Roberts, and Messrs H. J. Thomas, C. Benjamin, G. A. Alexander, J. Bro.vne, and<-tlie iiev. C. W. i'o-.vell. The Board of Education wrote, submitting certain piopoaals with regard to the present playground accommodation. It Was decided to ask the Board to provide a suitable fuel shed. Tho Works Committco icxx>ried that arrangements had bosn made to carry out thD wishes of the Borough Council with regard to the tzoc-3 on tlie grounds. It was decided that, in tho absence of any supply of screenings, an experiment should be made in portions of the playground with gaswork's ashes. The headmaster's report showed that there were 180 boys and 177 girls on the roll The average attendance was 298, but there had been a falling o2 in tho attendance during the past week. SUMJSTER-REDCLIFFS ! HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. , The Mayor, the Hon. J. Barr, M.L.C., presided over the annual meeting of tho Sum-ner-Redcliffs Horticultural Society. The ] committee's report and balance-sheet showed • that the initial efforts of tho Society had , boon successful beyond exiwctation. A very interesting demonstration of rose pruning and planting- was given at the New c Zealand Glue Company's gardens on Saturday 4 afternoon last by Mr J. Poulsen. Mr Mc- iGregor Wri?ht (president of the Woolston P Horticultural Society) spoke a few words of '' introduction.
