Miss Syxr.e (London) has returned to Christchurcli, after a stay with Mrs J. Deans, at Homcbush. Mr and Mrs Oscar Owlos (Dunedin; are visiting Christchurcli. Mr and Mrs JI. M. Smith, and Mrs H. H. Smith (Dunedin), are staying at the Clarendon. Mr and Mrs G. L. Rutherford CConneinara) left last night for Auckland to | join tho Malieno for Sydney. I It has been found necessary to postpone tho children's fancy dress party, to have been held at St. Luke's sehoolroom on Thursday. It will now be held on Thursday, 24th inst. On Saturday Mrs Malcolmson, who has been for over -five years head of tho workroom department at Armstrong's, Ltd., High street, was presented with a very handsome handbag by the work girls to mark their appreciation of her consideration and kindness. Mrs Malcolmson has taken up a responsible position with another firm. The Christchurch annual district competition for Nursing Divisions took plane on Saturday afternoon at the Barracks for the cup presented by Captain W. W. Mclvinncy. Nine squads competed, representing tho Avonside, Selw.yn, and Christchurch Nursing Divisions. The judges were Dr. T. F. Thompson, Dr. Spencer Daniels Captain McKinney, Captain Grenfell, Mrs G. AVhitaker, and .Mr Hoddinott. The competition was conducted by Major Arthur L. Gray, District Superintendent, assisted by Messrs J. H. Lash and Bccconsale. The results were as follows : —Christchurch Nursing (Mrs Bishop), 223h points; Seiwyn Nursing (Miss MacCalhnn), 205} points; Avonside Nursing (Mrs Pine), 205J- points; Sehvyn Nursing (Miss Donn); Christchurch Nursing (Miss Gill): Avonside Nursing (Mrs Bell); Avonside Nursing (Miss Harriot) ; Avonside Nursing (Mrs Betts); Avonside Nursing (Mrs Gibson). The test consisted of rendering first aid to tho injured, directing untrained persons in the use of stretchers, and tlio handling of injured persons, . also tests in bandaging, bed-making, sheet changing, invalid cookery, and general first-aid and nursing work. The judges expressed their keen appreciation of tho splendid work performed by all the competitors.
