FALL IN PRICES.
POSITION" IN UNITED STATES.
VANCOUVER, May 21. That women are playing an important part in the wave ox price collapses which is spreading over tho United States is admitted to-day. The newspapers give the subject considerable space, and rather optimistically 2-eview tno conditions, expecting to avert a panic, but the truth, is tnat money is high, and tho pinch. is being everywhere felt in attaining a readjustment.
The Federal Reservo Board's demand for retrenchment has resulted in putting American business men on what amounts to war rations, and tho banks arc refusing longer to furnish tho money for holding or speculating in luxury commodities.
Tho net result is the wholesale disgorging of storage warehouses all over tho United States. So far this has affected silks, furs, and clothing rather than foods.
The fact that there is a marked decrease in seeded acreage and a scarcitv of labour on the farms suggests that whesat and other foods are not likely to drop in price.
