A Wellington telegram states that the Hon. E. P. Lee will probably become president of tho Hoard of Trade, as the Prime Minister -will bo too busy during the session to hold tho office.

General Booth will visit Christchurch on Thursday and Friday next, and ■trill address spocial meetings in tho Salvation Army Citadel each day at 10-30 a.m., 2.45 p.m., and 7 p.m.

Mr D. Standage, of tho Dunedin stafF of the Bank of New Zealand, has received notice of Kis appointment as manager of the Westport branch of tho bank. Mr Standage will succeed Mr J. 11. Mcntiplny, who intends to retire at tho end of tho present month.

Mr A. R. Mr Jordan leaves Christchurch on Monday to take up his new duties.

The Canterbury Education Board yesterday recommended that the Education Department should appoint Mr J. Tucker as ono of its representatives on tho Ashburton High School Unard, and appointed Mr Robert Bell as its representative on that Board in place of tho lato Mr W. B. Denshire. Reference was made to tho interest whi~h Mr Bell took in the Ashburton High School and his generous gifts to educational institutions.

Mr Robert Allan, of "Ronaki," Nelson, leaves in a few days on another extended tour of the East. He intends to visit Macassar, Maloncias, and thereafter pat in some months on Arrow Islands. Then he will go over to Sumatra, and later to Siam and Saigon, taking Java en route. It ia Mr Allan's purposo to add to his lino collection of butterfles and birdskins. He will also continue to collect for the Dominion Museum.

The retirement is announced of Sir Robert Hat dwell from tho service of tho New Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd. Mr Hatchwell joined the service of tho company in 1883, and ever since has been stationed in Lyttclton, latterly holding tho position of local agent le ?" Prp r - Mr Hatchwell will be succeeded by Mr R. vt. C. Skipage, who has previously held a responsible no sit ion in the company's service at Bluff.
