CHANGES IN DETECTIVE BRANCH

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, March. 29. The Commissioner of Police has announced the following promotions ana transfers in connexion with the detective branch of the Police .Force; Dotec livc-£>ergeant S. Rawie, who has been doing duty with the local detective staff for a number of years, has been transferred to the uniform branch, with the rank of Sergeant, and given charge of the Greymouth office. He left to take up his new duties to-day. Detective-Sergeant Cameron, for many years in charge of tho Invercargill office of the detective branch, has keen promoted to the rank of SeniorDetective, and transferred to Christchurch

Detective-Sergeant Kemp, of Dunedin, has also been appointed a SeniorDetective. and will remain at his pre-, sent station. 4-'

The promotions of Sergeants Cameron and Kemp are tho first fruits of the recommendations made by the committee that sat last year for the purpose of rdjusting matters as between the uniform branch of the service and the _ detective branch. The rank of Senior-Detective is equivalent to th?.t of Senior-Sergeant in the uniform branch.

Theso changes in tho detective force will involve transfers and inter-changes for mam- members of the detective staff thronT'iout the Dominion, and it is probable that some of flip transfers will not toko place till after the visit of the Prince of Wales. As an outcome of these transfers, the appointment of probationary detectives to full rank Trill fo!low, and additional probationary detectives will have to bo appointed. The Commissioner informed a "Do-n-.'"nion"_ representative that the question of increased pay for both branches of the service is at present tinker consideration by the M : ™i«ter of Justice.
