The Board of Trade returns show that tho imports during December amounted to £"109,000,000, and exports to £90,000,000, being increases of £53,000,000 and £">2,000,000 respectively, as compared with December. 1918. The value of the imports during 1919 was £1.032,000.000. and of exports •£"{*3,000,000, representing increases of £315.000.000 and £'*)?.000,000 respectively, as compared with 1918. The principal increases for tho year j in imnorts were:— £ Food ... ... 1*2,000.000 Raw materials ... ... 158.000,000 Of the letter £40.000.000 was expendi' l on cotton, and £<*5,000.009 on wool. The increases in exports wero:— £ Coal ... ... 40.000,000 .Manufactures ... ... 220.000,000 The latter includes £60,000,000 worth •>f cotton, goods and textiles, and £48.000.000 worth of woollen goode.
