Owing to increased attacks on barracks, tho Government has decided to supply Lewis machine-guns to the police in tho south and west of Ireland. Two export gunners will be attached to each barracks. James Hoey, a prominent Sinn Fiiner, was arrested recently. He had organised an insurance company to prevent business from going to England. An armed party raided tho reuidonco of Mr Hibbort, Magistrato of Scariff, OcnntT Clare, and wounded a maidservant. Mr Hibbort returned tho fire, and wounded a raider. ATTACKS ON POLICE BARRACKS. TWO DETERMINED EFFORTS.
(Received Jannarv 9th, 12.10 a.m.) LONDON. January 7. Fifty armed mon attacked the Drtunlish PoliCo Barracks in County Longford during the night. Five defenders repulsed tlio attack until military assistance arrived in motor-cars. Another determined attack, lasting two hours, was made on tho Roundstona Police Barracks in County in which 200 Sinn Feiners wero engaged. The police made a vigorous defence, and after tho Sinn Feiners had been dispersed, they pursued and captured two of the attnekera. Owing to night marauding in Dublin, business men are employing civil patrols to protect their premises and properties. THB ATTACK ON LORD FBfINCH. (Au*trali*a and N.Z. C*bl« JUsociition.) Tlio police have arrested the barman of the public-house at Ashtown, from which Ravage hastily departed prior to tho attack on Lord French lastmonth. Tho police are roticcnt regarding the charge against tlif barman.
