Mr Bernard Tripp has boon appointed hv tho New Zealand Red Cross Executive as a delegate to the Geneva Conference, which takes place on March 'Jnd. Ho mid Mrs Tripp leavo for England this week by tho Arawa. Air R. r. Ward (Registrar of the Supremo Court at Dunedin) has received instructions from the Department in Wellington to leavo in a_ fewweeks' time to make an official visit of inspection of tho _ various Courts throughout tho Dominion. Sir James Allen, who has been in tho south during t.ho holidays, visiting various parts of his constituency, passed through Christchnrch on his way to Wellington last evening by the second express. Sir -Tames expects to return to Otago shortly to participate in the Otago University Jubilee celcbrat ions.
Cabled advice has been received at tho office of Hi.« Majesty's Trade Commissioner that R. AV. Dalton. who has boon paying an official visit to tho I'nite.l Kingdom, was to sail on his return journey to New Zealand on January .'lnl, by R.M.S. Mantua. and should arrive in Wellington towards tho end of February.
The first official act of the Bishon of Dunedin was to appoint the Rev. Canon Cnrzon-Siggers Archdeacon of 1 nverc-argill. This does not moan that the position of Archdeacon CurzonSiiitrers a? vicar of St. Matthew's, D-medin, or as canon of St. Paul's Cathedral will be affected. Bishop Richards wns the previous Archdeacon of Invercargill.
Mr R. H. Gainsford, late clerk and purveyor to the Oxford County Council, was, at a gathering of members and ex-mcmliers of tho Council, presented with a 'Morris chair as a token of their regard. Mr D. Hawke, who made the presentation, referred in eulogistic terms to the marked ability with which .Mr Gainsford had carriod out his dntics during the 18 years lie had been in the servico of tho Council.
Mr Gilbert, Simpson, late manager of the Bruce Woollen Mills, and one time a resident of Kninpoi, left Lyttelton by tho Maori last night to catch the A" raw a for England. Mr Simpson hns been commissioned by the neulyfrtrmed Mnstcrton Woollen Company to proceed to England to buy machinery for the Mnstcrton mills, which are now being built. Ho will be away for about six months, and on returning to New Zealand, will take up tho position of works manager of the Mnstcrton woollen mills.
Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, M.P., and Lady Rhodes wore the recipients of mnny congratulations at tho Tai Tnnii flower show yesterdny, which uio former opened. Replying to mnny valedictory speeches. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes said that what ho valued next to tho nctunl honour wero tho neighbourly congratulations that h© had received from tho residents of tho district. In malting their lionic in Tai Tapu over 20 yenrs ago, ho and LadyRhodes intended it to be so for life, and that was still their intention.
