THE BARQUE DiRvIEL.
I The trim little barquo Daniel, which ar- ' rived at Dunedin on Wednesday, made an exceedingly fast passage from Hobart. The vessel cleared tho Tafiruanian port on Christmas Etc, and made the Now Zealand coast in six days. She had favourable winds for the greater part fli tho passage, but was bocalmed for five days. Sho signalled Otago Heads at daybreak on Monday, requesting tho services of a tug: but her signals weru not seen. Tho Daniel's anchor was then let go, but the cable parted with the strain put on it by a moderate gale which sprang up. Tho vessel was blown, out to sea, and waa taken in tow by the steamer Calm on Tuesday morning. When Bearing tho Heads a strong eonth-west wind sprang up, a Ed. tho tow-lino parting, the bajque was again bloxn out to sea. Tho tug Plucky went out earlv on Wednesday luornh:?, and after petting a lino made fast towed* her into port. Captain Mclnnrs is in command, and is accompanicd by his wife. Tho Danioi carries a crew of 13 all told, all of wham are Britishers —a rare occurrence on & sailing ship these days. They aro a smartlookinj* body of young men, and ono of the moat scomanliko crews who havo ever entered that port. The fact that the Daniel only occupied six days' actual sailing on the trip from Hobart proves their seamanship.
