SHORTAGE OF PETROL.
PRIME MINISTER'S ACTIVITIES. (PUESfI ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 7. Steps havo boon taken by the Primo Minister to abato tho acute shortage of petrol which has been felt more or less all over the country, particularly in the Auckland district. To reliovo tho dairy farmers in tho Waikato who need petrol for their milking machines, arrangements havo been mado with the Vacuum Oil Co. to rail to small supplies and larger quantities will bo sent on by steamer later from Wellington. Air Massoy has also arrangod to divert to Now Zealand from tho cargo of the Waihora at present at Wellington (5000 cosoß of petrol consigned to Melbourne. Part of this well bo sent to_ Auckland and tho distribution of . this and other supplies will now bo controlled by tho Board of Trade. Users of potrol are asked by the Board of Trade to limit their demands to immodiato requirements, as it is anticipated that reasonable supplies trill bo available towards the end of the present monfh.
