ATTNTTAIj contebence. (raxss ASSOCIATION TELEGRAtI.) WELLINGTON, January 6. Tho Educational Institute passed a resolution that in general tho country school area Ehould be from 5 to 20 acres, and should bo divided into playground, gardens, ground for children's horses, and ground to bo known as a residential area for the use of tho teacher. A proposal affirming that no portion of tho school glebe should bo allowed to be leased by nn Education Board or a School Committee was struck out. Mr R. J. Foss (Pahiatua), moved: — "That this institute affirms the principle that the Education Department should control all tho classes of pupils held during school hours." Tho referenco in the remit was to tho military* training of cadets when under tho present regulations tho pupils in schools tho control of officials of the "uefcnco Department, and boys attending drill could "C marked absent from school. The general opinion of the delegates was that thoiign representatives of tho Defence Department had power to call out the pupils in tho secondary departments of schools, as a rulo this power was not cxerciscd without consideration. Boys attending drill could not legally be marked present at school. The remit was adopted. Tho conference affirmed the last conference's resolution relative to salaries: —"That the salary schedule shall substitute for payment a schedule hnscd on efficiency, on service, on educational status, and on professional and domestic responsibilities." A remit was adopted, that in view of tho voluo of moving picture as an educative factor, the Government be urged to establish n film bureau for the purpose of supplying suitable material for uso in schools.
