A gentleman who is very closely connected with the coal trade in Christchurch ycstcrdixy xnndc tbo following statement for publication: —"Tho minoowncrs have Riven the various unions notice that tlioy are prepared to enter into new agreements and fully discuss all matters m connexion with the coalmining industry, provided the go-slow policy is stopped. No replies have yet been recoived. It is expected that the question -will ho fully considered by the mine-owners during tho present month. Th© main difficulty appears to bo that, whilo tho mine-owners arc willing to meet tho men and fully discuss any grievances they may have, tho owners object to having those questions settled by those who aro quito outsido the actual dispute'. Tho mines were to be re-started yesterday, but no reports have yet been received as to how tho men arc worlnng."
