Mr W. J. R. Simpson, head auctioneer for the Ashburton branch of tho National Mortgage and Agency Company, has been promoted to the position of manager of tho company's Gore branch, and is cspected to leave for Goro about tho end of tho present month.
Tho retirement from active business cares of Mr James Buttle, until recently general manager of the Now Zealand Insurance Company, who is at present enjoying a year's ieavo of absence prior to leaving tho company's servico on pension, brings to a conclusion (states the "New Zealand Herald") an insurance career which has bridged over tho principal period of tho growth of New Zealand, and has marked tho development of Auckland, from a modest town, into the largest commorcial centre and tho most important insurance headquarters in the Dominion. Mr joined the fitaff of tho Now Zealand Insurance Company in Auckland in 187-1, and eventually became manager of its local ofTbe. In 'this petition he remained until January, ISfX), when he was transferred to Melbourne, and place;! in chargo of tho company's business in Victoria. Tliero ho was stationed until February, 1903, when he returned to Auckland a« general manager of the company, an office which ho continued to hold "until his withdrawal on leave was signalised tho other day by a presentation of plato from tho Board of 7>ireclon<, coupled with expressions of appreciation of tho services rendered tx> the company by its veteran executive officer.
