Archdeacon Thomas Fan- • i2 nr *», on ® the oldest and best-known Churchmon in New Zealand, who had beeji ewiouely ill for some weeks, died , his residence in "Wellington at 1 o clock ou Saturday morning, at the • Jj? o of 79 years. The iate Archdeacon Fantourt was a qniet, unobtrusivo and practical Christian man to ail who 'know and respected liim—and such were not confined to the Anglican Communion. His father and grandfather behim were clorgymenin the Church of England, and his son, tho Rev. William Fancourt, is vicar of a Wellington parish. The late Archdeacon was born «6 Malvern, Worcestershire, on January 22r0, IS4O, and was educated at wincing College, Sussex. He came to iVew Zealand from Cawnpore, where, 2 fte .»t SI ? In , g sorv * ce as a missionary, his Health broke down, and he had to give Tip the work for which he had studied at the famous St. Augustine's College, Canterbury. When the Archdeacon arrived in Wellingtou in 1865, it was a yory smal. town compared with what it is to-day. Archdeacon Fancourt has Wt a family of one son (Rev. W. M. *incourt, vicar of St. Thomas's, Wellington ■ South), and three daughters, Mrs. Harrison Flotcher (England), Mrs (Annedalo, Tenui). and Miss Fancourt 'Wellington South). Mrs Fancourt died some years ago. MR NAT GOODWIN. A cable message from New York announces the death of Mr Nat Goodwin, the actor-manager. He was born in Boston on July 2oth, 1857. Ho had •won married four times, his second wife being Marine Elliott, tho well.own actress.. He made his debut with Stuart Robson in "The Law in a sr d P la y®d comedy parts nntil 1879. He scored an immediate B u Cßs s in " The Hnn chback," and also pleased the critics in varioms small carts Hamlet." He starred in "BlackSusan," "3>avid Garrick," "The ,™®>. a ° d many other popular plays. In 1901 he played Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice," and later on in A Midsummer Night's Dream."
