He looks better than he did ' at the Wellington Summer Meeting. 1 Bondage beat Euripos over four furlongs • in 51 2-sth sec. Both were under pressure, and there was nothing ■ impressive about the > gallop. * The Craven Plate candidate Lion skin ■ Bhowed that she is very well by supping < over half a mile in SO l-sth sec. Adju- 5 tant, who is looking and galloping much - better than earlier in the season, waa sent ] along at half-pace until he reached the live- *■ furlong post, and ran home from there in ; lmin BJaec. He was not. out to make time. Hiero, with a ljght-weight up, alter going i very scratchily behind as he cantered round ] to the half-mile post, took 53 2-sth see to ] gallop home. j Hy:ans could have improved on the aSJJsec I that he took to run half "a mile. Tip Up, Red Pool, and Recorder ; E finished together ovei* six furlongs ii, lmin 9 20sec. Tip Up, who was carrying the moss 1 weight, had their measure at any stage, j * Kilrush was given steady pace work. ® Winter CherTy was given strong pace work i over a circuit. She is still lame in front, | but does not appear to be getting any « worse. Gay Lad was given a. sweat, and Punka was cantered. Glendower. on ac- j count of being slightly lame behind, was led p m the middle. , c( Take Down and Subterfuge were matchcd »t about even .six furlongs. Time, 2m SO 3-Se, 0 NOTES ON THE RACING. ; (special io "tub pbess.") DUNEDIN, January 31. -The Forbniy Park Trotting' Ciub ope no a its Summer Meeting to-day. The weaina was line, until the sixth race, when rai E fell, and tho track became heavy, and a] against fast timos. For an off-day th attendance was good, and speculation briafc The racing was interesting, and several nic dividends were paid during the day. Th weather is almost certain to continue bad and the going to-morrow will not be An; better. W. T. Low© won two races, th r win of Commander Bell being very populai Dooderall scored a lucky win in the Firs ® Amateur Handicap, as Exmoor led nnti ' sixty yards from home, when he broke badly " and failed to strike s. gait before being pass '• ed by Dooderall. The heavy going did no 1 suit the majority of those engaged, and all > with the exception of Diameter And Marvii Child, performed indifferently. Jack AixaJ proved a better stayer than South Star ii ' the Kensington Handicap, beating the South 1 land-trained pacer comfortably at the finish ; For twelve furlongs Jane Wilkes was in tin firing line, and she finished fifth,'and ehouk be all the. better for the race. The favourite ' Dora Derby, made little or iio' impressioi on the front division in the first mile, bu t over the latter part of the journey she pacec strongly, and finished third. * Young StaJ Pointer began badly, but.in the middie mi}* he showed a good turn 'of speed, and haj only to begin, right to win a race. 'Of tß< others Ouimet made the best showing; finish ing fourth. Exmcoi guickly established t • good lead in the Muescilburgh Handicap,. and although challenged .'strongly by Rita. Rose ) over the last six. furlongs, he made no miß [ takes, and won nicely from Peter. Ham, whi stayed, better than Rita" Rose.' - Rita Roec j showed plenty of speed,''bet cannot'stay, anc [ a mile and a half is about her limit at present. _ Marvin .Child., and,, Happy - Jack' were L prominent for tkree-parts of the journey, but . failed to stay on. Ben Bell and Sunrise trotted badly, and'let their supporters 'down. Urnrua showed plenty of.Bpeed, bni p seemed unable to oontrol it. Irom stert to finish, the Dunedin 'Qap'was full of interest. At the end'of a, mile and T a. half ' the field was bunohed, and several of those engaged held a winning chance. .Nihiliit was always in the front division, and won [ pleasingly from Vice Admiral, who came fast at the finish. Mintson did not get a good 1 passage, and did well to get third. At the end or twelve furlongs,. Stockade, : Hectorata, Trix Pointer, and Albert Cling were in the 1 firing line, but failed to race on. Even. so, the race ahonld do both Trix Pointer and Albert ding a lot of good. Shanghai and Legacy failed to strike a gait at the start, while Nancy Stair, Tamarisk, and Stanley's Child all broke when nnder pressure. G. Jf. Dillon led from start to finish in the Trial Handicap, and pacing evenly throughout,, won with something in hand from Indra and Napoleon. Indra mixed his gait during .the race, hut lasted long 'enough to gain second money. It was a poor contest, as with tho exception of Moondrift,,who was. beaten half a mile from home, none of the-others ever threatened danger. Commander Bell gathered the field in the Otago Handicap-in fine style, and with six furlongs to go was -in charge and full of running. Billy Parole looked like getting second, but .broke repeatedly, and Ohub beat him home, _ Colonel Havetock was fourth. - Uiurua would ' not eettle down, and broke repeatedly. -Sungod won the King George Handicap in fine, style. He joined the leaders at tne ,end .of six furlongs, and staying on, beat Frank Tracey by. a small margin, Will o' the Wisp being third, just in front of Drift, Vice Admiral, and Pax. Legacy, ■ Sympathy, and Admiral TTn.l aIK loot ground by beginning badly, while Lora • Roanchild trotted badly. Great Britain, winner of the Electric Handicap, was one of the outsiders of the field, and paid close on a quarter of a century. Franks was always in a handy position with the Rothschild gelding, who, finishing full of running, easily defeated Quadroon by half a length. Inwood put in a strong ran over the fist half, and finished third, just in front of Gamechild and Blackford. The latter dwelt at the start, but, judging by the pace, he showed, he could hardly have finished out of the money. Gamechild and Prince Coronado were prominent for six furlongs, .at which stage both stopped. Chaos, Gipsy King, and Captain Stanley ran badly, and Dot Robbins broke down in the race.
