SUMMER MEETING
The Canterbury Jockey Club's Sum s mer Meeting, to be held at Riccartor d to-day, gives promise of being an extl cepticnnlly popular fixture. The fields Q in the different events are just large ® snougn. to ensure excellent racing, and ' the quality represented is well up tc F the average. His J'lxcelleney tho i Governor-General and the Countess oi Liverpool will be present. The day s will commence at 1 p.m. with ;• the Trial calces, a race for horses that :1 have never won a race of the value ot 1-50 sovs. Amongst the starters in this • race will be Ivilrush. who has run pror minentlv in several of the best handi- % cap events in the Dominion, while Cave Rock, Algidus, Indus, and Tunic are . credited with being verv well at present. Of those engaged in the Hornby 1 \Velter Handicap. Tip I'p, Moorabbe, v and Good Hope are recent winners, 1 while in the valuable Middle Park Plate 1 the best of tho season's two-year-olds * | iri Surveyor will be seen in competition " ! with Macduff and Sun Dance, who arc ' j reported to be above tho average. The ' [ Midsummer Handicap bears a very open appearance, and Adjutant, who has not I won a race ioj- a long time, is *-ure to be solidly supported on the totalisator. Kilmoon may be very hard to beat, while Take Down, who hails from the south, has several good performances lo her credit. Tho Lyttolton Plate will | be contested l>v a good field of two-year-olds, including several that have not yet sported silk.
