THE FLOODS IN THE SOUTH.
WATER STILL RISING
(TRKSS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.)
I>UNEDIN, January 31. In Balclutha district the floods still wear an ominous aspect, though tho waters are not increasing to any extent. Tho pressure on the protective banks is very severe, and a persistent drizzling rain is not helping the sodden banks..
At Kaitangata, where a very large quantity of water has accumulated, tho level of tho flood showed no diminution to-day. In the Taieri district the waters are increasing in South Taieri, and there is a prospcct of railway dislocation tomorrow, as tho water rose two feet today, and to-night it was over tho rails between Orhio and Allanton, with a fnH-jier rise probable, and heavy ram falling. Tho stock in both districts have been removed to the high lands. Tt is probable that tho turnip cror> will be ruined, depriving farmers of winter foed for their 6tock.
