MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Messrs F. W. Anderson and F. G. Norton, J.P.'s, presided at the Lyttolton Magistrate's Court yesterday, when three statutory first offenders were each convicted and fined ss, with the usual alternative. David Osborno was charged with drunkenness and using obscene language in a public place. John Gilmoro Henley wrs similarly charged. Each was fined 5s for drunkenness, and £5 for using obscene language, in default one month's imprisonment. SEAMEN'S INSTITUTE. About fifty seamen from the Briton were entertained in tho Social Hall at the Sonmen's Institute on Thursday evening. Tho inejor part of tho entertainment was provided by an excellent concert party, undor tho direction of Miss Luoy Cowani. The men were addressed by tho Missioner regarding the benefits to be derived from membership of the Seamen's Christian Brotherhood, and were given some sound advico in connexion with upholding tho dignity of their position ns men 'of the British mercantile marine, Supper was served by the Institute's staff.
