| RACING AND TROTTING f NOTES. S < « - - (By "Lookek-On.") Tho outside of tho trial grass gallop at Riccartou was open for the fival gallops yesterday, and though it was heavy and a steady Ttvin fell aIL tho morning' it was made lull uso of. / Work began by Adjutant galloping a circuit. iie waa picked up by bir is'ancirui oyer the iaat mile-'; botii iiuishtd well. 'I'be time for Uie laat mile and a quarter was 2min IB l-sth sec. Heathercoto, who followed, cantered round to tlio etruight, and then rattled home—a health gallop merely. After covering two furlongß at throequarter pace, Indus was picked up by Valencia, and the pair galloped the next half mile in 51i3ec without any trouble. Margerine, with tho assistance of Larissa over the, last mile, galloped a circuit; the mar©, who was carrying e lilliputian lad, covered the last ten turlongs in 2min 16 l-sth soc, which was the bost for the morning of any Midsummer Handicap . candidates. The first two furlongs was run in 26 l-sth sec, four 51scc, sis in lmin 19sec. Lionskin beat Long Range .very easily over six furlongs in .lmin 19 '2-sth sec, and tho gallop will make her be supported on Saturday. Gamecock ran three-quarters of a mile in lmin 18 2-sth sec. Though stopping over the last furlong, it was an attractivo performance for a horse that does not like mud: ' Bondage looked inclined to quit over the last two of a seven furlong gall'on which took lmin 37 4-sth eec. Macduif was nbt fully while" running six furlongs, in lmin 21 2-sth 6ec, and Judsea finished with Minsk at the end of half a mile run in 53 l-sth sec. After showing groat brilliancy over the ■'I first'part of her gallop, Mise Mimic, though stopping badly, ran five furlongs in lmin 5 5 sth eec. Euripos finished lengths in front of Post Baste at the end of six' furlongs, which he ran in lmin' 22£ sec. This was a poor effort
on both horses', part. Hioro covered six furlongs in lmin 23aec, a distance that Spangle and' Matty ran to. gother in lmin 21 2-sth sec without being * moved on. ' Braid, who was picked up by St. Winnow over the last four, ran five> furlongs in. lmin 7sec.' Braid whistled a bit, which may account for her poor showings lately, though ■perhaps it was merely duo to the rain. After breakfast Loch Weir covered four furlongs in 53sec, then Kilrush with a, light weight up did not appear to bo finishing generously over the concluding stages of a seven furlong gallop run in. lmin .33 3-sth **ec, a distance that Sisyphus covered immediately after from a stand in Imm 83sec. Killjoy dashed over half a mile up the back' «i 51 2-sth sec, and Tyne beat Jeannot over six furlongs in' lmin 23 2-5tE sec. "Winter Cherry, who still shows signs of lameness in front, carried a light weight over sis furlongs, in lmin 21 1-Sth ®eo, and was all out to do it. Premium gave Starland a very decided "beating over five furlongs up th<s back, while" Acquittal and Steepholm wore all out to cover four furlongs of tho eame coups© in< 51 • l-sth sec, Acquittal having slightlv the best of it. Punka, who does not look the filly she was before the 'Wellington Meeting, was held safe by- Glendower while they covered a mile in lmin 48 2-sth sec. It was good W9rk on the gelding's part. King Star beat Missouri nicely over five furlobgs in lmin 7 3-Sth eoc, and Recorder, Red Pool, and Tunic finished in that order over six furlonbs run in lmin 24sec. •Cerberus sprinted five furlongs in lmin 7sec, and Kilroy covered the same ground in lmin 6 l-sth sec, while Onslaught ran half a mile iri^s2sec. Vascular ran seven furlongs in lmin 36 4-sth spc, then Daytime finished well at the end of six run in lmin 18 3-sth sec. Tip Up galloped six furlongs. in lmin 25sec and >did not bleed, and Algidus covered a furlong more in lmin 34aec. Ho was stopping badly over the last quarter of a mile. , Marianne cantered round to the straight, and then sprinted home, .while Tako Down was all out to beat Subterfuge by three lengths at tho end of ten furlongs run in 2min 17 4-sth sec. The pair were carrying about even weights, and it was a very satisfactory gallop on Take Down's part. Good Hope, with a companion, galloped four furlongs in 52 2-sth eec. Ho ic lighter than at the November Meeting. Koesian gave a satisfactory display in covering five furlongs in lmin 5 4-sth sec. Then tho morning's work was brought toa close by Bombproof, Greek Son, and Bandy finishing in that order over five furlongs run in lmin 7 l-sth sec. C. Gieseler is not bringing any horses to race at tho Meeting. A Press Association message says that Mr R. B. Luek, of Auckland, has been appointed judge for the "Warganui Jockey Club's Cup Meeting nest month.
