BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOI. The fortnightly meeting •of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was lield on Tuesday night. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. H. Bls-ckweil), Crs. L. B. Evans, R. Dunn, A. Blakeley, li. C. Fuldaeth, J. Barnard, J. Bryden, H. Mcintosh, and W. Doubleday. A letter was received from the Riccarton Borough Council regarding the administration of funds in connexion with the influenza epidemic. The letter wbl received. The Newmarket Borough. Council wrote regarding the United Fir© Brigades' Association's proposal, that all brigades be put under the joint control of the Government, insurance companies, and local bodies. It was decided to support the proposal. The Fire Brigade's application a new flag was granted. Mr A. Emmet was appointed cattle ranger for the borough. ~ ... It was decided that the attention of the police be drawn to the ■ speed of motor cars through the borough. , , . The Lighting Committee recommended ttiat Mr F. Cottingham continue on as Fire Brigade engineer, and that Mr H. Childs do the electrical connexions in the borougn. A The te Works Committee recommended that the old fire brigade eile be used o® a taxistand.—Adopted. , _ . . The Finance Committee rep°rtedKeceipta £126 lis 9d, Bank debit balance £M os lOd. It was decided to write to the Eyre bounty Council regarding the formation 01 a lootpath from Sneyd street to the Public Cemetery. A grant of £20 was made to the Nary League. , ~ . .. . At a special mooting, it was decided that Thursday be the statutory half-hoiiday for shops in the borough. * After the ordinarv meeting, the Council sat as a Domain Board. A letter was received from the Kairaki Campholders Association, drawing -the Board's attention to the dangerous state of the footbridge at the mouth or the Saltwater creek. It was decided notify the Association that the Board would enquire if tho owner of the land would allow the bridge to be moved further up-stream. The caretaker of the ■ Beach Domain reported a visitor had acted in a manner that was likely to cause a breach of the peec*. It was decided to ask fox an explanation.
