HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. Tho North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday. Present— Messrs F. Horrell (chairman), H. B. Sorensen, W. F. Cooper, I. Andrew, W. J. H. EvanSj O. Bradley, H. Paterson, AV, P. Spencer, F. G. Norton, H. J. Otley, W. Nicholls, M. Bethell, S. Andrew, the Hon. B. Moore, and Mesdames Christie, Green, and Wilson. Owing to the ever-increasing responsibilities and dnties of the Jady superintendent of nurses, the Hospital' Committee that it had agreed to the appointment of a senior sister to assist that officer. The Hospital Committee stated that it had set iip a small committee to consider the question of providing another operating theatre. The matter would require full consideration, and .it might be Bome little time

before any. definite proposal could be made to,the Board. The medical superintendent reported that, at the end •of December, there .were 314 patients in the Chriatchurch Hospital. The Public Health Committee reported that the Minister had approved the proposal to erect a temporary sanatorium for soldiers at the Sanatorium. The work was in hand under the supervision of Mr Harrop, the Board's clerk of works, who assisted Colonel Mag-ill and Dr. Blackraore to provide. the plans. The Public Health Committee reported that th* Cashmere Hills Sanatorium was quite full, and there were ten women awaiting admission. Dr. Blackmore reported that, on December. 31st, there were 65 patients at the Sanatorium, end 44 at the Coronation Hospital. The Institutions Committee reported that, >n January 24th, there were 97 inmates at ruarangi, 32 at the Essex Home, 94 at the Memorial Home, and 13 at the Orphanage. The Charitable Aid Committee reported hat since the. last meeting of the Board, it lad dealt with 90 applications for relief, opresonting 398 persons. Among the iippli:ationa for relief were 11 from epidemic widows. The Finance Committee reported that the linister had approved the acceptance of the mended tender for the erection of the Oxord Hospital, and the work was in hand. The Canterbury Progres League asktig the Board to affiliate to it. It was deided to reply that, while Board "was in ympathy with the aims and objects of the joague, its funds could not bs spent in he manner indicated. An amendment that he Board approve the objects of the League nd make a donation of £10 was lost.
