Seamen in inter-State vessels are demanding improved quarters and full wages for all time lost when a vessel is quarantined. This is believed to be the forcrunnor of a general demand for all concessions recently mad© oy the Union Company. Masks have been issued to the police. The Government has ordered tho compulsory wearing of masks from Monday. Tho penalty for noncompliance is arrest. RESTRICTIONS ON TRAVEL. (Received January 30th, 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, January 29. Land traffic between Victoria and New South "Wales will be prohibited as fiom Thursday. Strong patrols, are guarding the borders. Passengers are permitted to travel by steamer, provided they undorgo quarantine upon arrival. POSITION IN MELBOURNE. (Received January 29th, 10.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 29. Three deaths occurred to-day. The incoming cases are more serious. ADELAIDE AFFECTED. ; ADELAIDE, January 29. Twenty cases of influenza are reported iu the city. END OF EPIDEMIC IN FIJI. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, January 29. The Governor-General has received from the Governor of Fiji a cable message dated January 27th, stating that no fresh cases of influenza have been reported at Suva since December 28th or at Levuka since December 26th. The country districts are rapidly clearing and the epidemic is regarded as over. The medical relief parties, who came from Australia and New Zealand, are leaving this week.
