Nominations for the North Otago Meeting close to-night at 7 o'clock. The No- 6 grass gallop was open at Rio carton yesterday. Morgerine and Larissa were responsible for a good working gallop over a mile. The Chokebore horses were give® moderately . strong work. . 1 ■ J. McCombe gave Subterfuge strong pace work, while Bon Spefc's rider was unable to control him over the first half of a circuit. Pyjama was exercised in the middle. M. Hobbs gave. Punka and Winter Cheny Btrong work over a circuit. The latter is lume in front, while Punka looks lighter than before eho left for tho Wellington Summer Meeting. F Christmas did not ask his lot for much. Fiery Cross, who is slightly lame behind, waa given trotting exercise alongside a hack; Killjoy, who never looked better, was trotted and cantered in tho middle with her trainor in the saddle; and Glendowcr did similar exercise with a .youngster up. Fieir Cross is a doubtful starter at the C.J.C. Midsummer Meeting. Daytime and Kilrush were given good threequarter pace work by A. McAuley. Both are in the best of health. Gameoock and Sea Blue were not asked to go out of a canter. Both are somewhat backward. ■ \'ascukr (F. Ellis) and King Star (H. Carr) were companions in a dash over two flights of hurdles. Both fenced well, King Star silrpming many by the way. he fenced for' tho veteran horseman. F. D. Jones gave Euripcs and Post Haste good pace work, while Bore. was trotted and cantered in the middle. Sheenan lot Greek Son off with a light morning's work. The well-known horseman J. Campbell will not go across to Australia'to ride Mr Kemball's horses. He is going into hospital to undergo an operation for appendicitis. A Press Association message from New Plymouth says that Gloaming has ' already arrived, and Desert Gold is definitely booked to arrive. on Saturday. The two champions will probably meet in the Taranaki Stakes on Thursday, February 6th, and great interest is being taken in tho contest. At the monthly meeting of the Canterbury I Jockey Club the programme submitted by the Marlborough Racing- Club was approved and it was decided to recommend that the club be allotted an additional day for its Meeting in May.
