LOST OVERBOARD.
DISAPPEARANCE OF LAD FROlf MAORI. On the run- of tho ferry steamer Maori from Wellington on Monday night, a lad named Jack Russell Burn was lost overboard. About 11 p.m., when the vessel was off Capo Campbell, a passenger caw Bum near the rail, smoking a cigarette. Ho suddenly disappeared overboard. Captain Cameron put tho ship about and tho steamer circled about the vicinity for somo considerable time, but no trace of tho lad was found. Burn was about 15 years of age, and had been attending; St. Andrew 's College. He had been on a trip to Wellington for a cliaugc aftor a very severe and protracted attack of iufluenza, and wos expecting to resume his studies at St. Andrew's Collego next week. Mrs Burn, 281 Hereford stroet, who was the deceased boy's foster mother, has had to face a series of tragedies during the last three or four years. Whoa the war broke out she was a wjdow with three sons, one of whom, Lieut. Wallaco Burn, lost his life in tho flying corps in tho Persian Gulf, and another, Bruce Burn, was killed in Gallipoli. Tho only surviving boy— tho eldest son—who was well known in local volunteering and territorial circles n.s the officer in charge of the "K" Battery, died during the recent epidemic. Thus Mrs Burn, lost all her sons, anc) the last blow is tho loss of her foster 6on.
