A SPLENDID TRIBUTE.
GENERAL GODLEY'S PRAISE OF NEW ZEALAND TROOPS.
(SPECIAI, TO "THE PRESS.'"!
WELLINGTON, January °3 Tho high opinion of New Zealand and New Zealand soldiers held by General Sir Alexander Godley is shown in " a letter ho has written to the Defence Minister, in which the following passago occurs: —
""ion mav bo fairly assured that, it was not only the gallantry of tho NewZealand troops and such l'enclership'and administration as thoso who have been ' privileged to command them have been nbio to provide, that has mado the New Zealand Expeditionary Force so conspicuously successful, but also all that ha,s boon done for us in Now Zealand in the regular and aniplo provision of drafts and their training, and tho generous supply of monev and support in every way. '•No ono of the Allies or Dominions will have a prouder record to look back on than New Zealand, and for mvself ;I can only say that to have had* the honour and privilego of commanding such a force throughout tho "reatest war 111 history will bo for all my life one of my proudest recollections' ''Ono feels now that it is tho widows iincl orphans of thos<? who havo so cnllantlv fallen, and the maimed and mutilated soldiers, who claim our first attention, and I am very glad to roalise how much you aro doing for all such in New Zealand/'
