NAVY LEAGUE WAR FUND APPEAL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. Tlie committee of the Navy League War Fund Appeal inct last niglit.. Mr Alex. Boyle presiding. Telegrams were read from West Coast centres as to the progress of the appeal. In some ewes nothing had been collected —in others the appeal had been referred to public bodies. The Waimato Branch wrote 6tating that a canvass had been started. Southbridge Town Board wrote that residents had contributed through two local functions. The secretary (Mr C. J. Treleaven) stated that lie was communicating with those connected with the function®. It wa-s announced that the amount actually received and "promised in Christchurch was £10,864. Satisfactory reports regarding the progress of - the appeal in the country districts were received. CITY COUNCIL VOTES £500; A few weeks ago, at the last ordinary meeting of the City/ Council, a deputation from tlie Navy League asked the Council for a grant towards the fund it was assisting to raise in aid of the dependants of men of the Royal Navy lost or incapacitated during the war. The request, after some discussion, was referred to the Council's By-laws and Finance Committee, which recommended last night that the Council vote £500 for the purpose. The recommendation was adopted.
