The official statement of tho manner in which he won tho Victoria Ctobs is as follows:—"When commanding an attacking platoon lie observed, on emerging from a wood. 80 or 100 Germans, with sover.il machine-guns, holding up t>e advance of the troops on his right. He had only six men. but Lieutenant Lio'comb. with four men, joined him. nnd he dccided to attack the enenyv flank and rear. Tho two officers and the ten men charged with the bayonet, "Lieutenant Storkey—as he then w.is in the lend, and expellrd the enemy. They killed or wounded SO. and captiued t'u'fo offifers and fifty men and the machine-guns. Lieutenant Sto-kpj s courage and promptness, and tho skilful attack, removed a dangerous obstacle to the advance, and were a great inspiration to tho remainder of the parly. Cantnin Storkey, who was born in Xaniev 26 years ago, went to Australia in 1912, and was emnloyed as a in the university at Svdney while studying for the law.' He'left for the front in 19155, and was one of tho famous Australian Fifth Brigade, which had done a -rreat deal of the hard fighting which lias come the way of the Australians. He was wounded seriously about tv/o years ago. Immediately on recovering he returned to the lines of the Fighting Fifth, and did work which caused him to be specially mentioned in despatches.
