I Resolutions were parsed providing tor t.ie , - raising of an additional loan of £5000, being i a 10 per cent, of tho £63,000 loan. Upon t..e P recommendation of tho By-law* and 1' manco I Committee, the period of tho loan was fixed nt 23 years, interest 5£ per cent., with n. ' sinking- fund of 2 per cent. _ Tjie committee advised that a rate of J)5-4704tii5,..0f .a ■ penny in the £ wmiM be required to be :uaao ' «3 security for the loan. The - By-laws and Financ-a Committee, in its report, stated that the property in Glou- , cestor street occupied by the Public Trustee had been marked exempt by the Government Valuation of Land Department, and ' had been treated accordingly, the special ratea only having been paid. It having been recently discovered that the property was > vested in' tho Public Trustee, the committee was of opinion thot it did not come under tho, provisions which exempted l&nd vested in his Majesty the King. The committer therefore 'recommended that an amended da- j mand be in ado. | 1 Upon the committee's recommendation tho Council dccided to mako an amended claim for £32 ]*; 4d rates. Tho Electricity Commmittee reported that the Publjo Trustee had given notice that lie intended to proceed against. the Council to recover compensation under the Workers' Compensation Act, 1908, in respect of the death of the late Mr C. D. Begg, and that the matter hod been placed in tlid hands of the city solicitor for attention. Regarding the widening of Retreat road, Avonsido, the Works and Sanitary Committo? imported that the land required for widening Retreat road eastward from the 6ection owned by the Council had been acquired tinder the following conditions: —Mr Hood conveys a strip 15.15 links deep from his frontage, a similar strip being conveyed to •him by Mr Ostler, and added to the back cf his section, the Council erecting a fence on tho frontage und re-erecting the back "fence, providing new material where nectary. Regarding ihe otlior sections, the same conditions applied cscept in the c?so of one of !Urr. Britton's sections and Mr Stinnear'e seclion no land had been given to them to compensate for the land required for widening tiie road. Fences were to be erected of an approved de3igu" in place of the existing hedges. The whole of tho fencing required was estimated to coal £35. The Wovlts and Sanitary Committer reported thnt the Heathcolo County Council had consented to the erection of a shelter at the corner of .BucSley's and Cemetery roads, and the committee recommended that tenders bo called for tJie> work, the estimated cost of which was £60. Tho recommendation was adopted.
