ARRANGEMENTS FOR NEXT MONTH'S MEETING. • —*" Arrangements for the Science Congress, which is to open in Christchurch on February 4th, aro now practically completed, and an interesting illustrated booklot has been issued containing the full programme and list of lectures and pajjers. Since the booklet was printed it has been found impossible to carry out the original intention to devote the evening of February 7th to the discussion of phases of the scionce and industry question and in place thereof Dr. A. B. Pearson will deliver a lecture on "The Influenza Epidemic." | Th 6 Congress, which by the courtesy of the Canterbury College authorities will be held in the College buildings, is under the auspices of the New Zealand Institute and the Philosophical Insti- • tute of Canterbury is carrying out the arrangements. The Mayor of Christchurch will accord a civic welcome to those attending the Congress, which will be officially opened by his Excellency the Governor-General. At tho opening function an address will v be givfn by tho Hon. G\ TV. Russell, .and Dr. h. Cockayne will deliver his presidential address. Amoncpt the papers to be given is one by Professor Arnold Wall on "The pronunciation of scientific names in New Zealand, with special reference to the terms of botany."
