AUSTRALIAN STATISTICS. WAJJ PENSIONS OVER £4,000,000 A YiiAK. Statistics relating to pensions ""I maternity allowances granted up to the end, of ' last year were issued by the Commonwealth Treasury recently. The total number of war pensions granted, as at December 27th, was 147,146, in respect of which tho. annual liability was £4,436,196. The figures of each of the states wero as follows:— A nmm.l Pensions. liability, granted £ New South Wales .. 46,980 1,547,023 Victoria .. .. 48,640 1,362,210 Queensland .. 16,369 606,767 South Australia .. 14,577 401,524 "Western Australia 14,310 433,357 Tasmania .. 6,265 186,295 Tho number of old-age pensions granted u.p to the end of the year was 170,620, and tho number still in force was 95,522, tho > deductions on account of deaths and tions being 75,096.
