EFFICIENCY BOARD.

CONCLUDING ITS LABOURS,

(SPECIAL TO "TITE IHESS.") WELLINGTON, January 22 Tho work of tho National Efficiency Board is now over, or, rather, the tasks that the Board was set up to do are either already done, or thoy are no longer necessary, now that tho war is over. The Board is finishing up the work it has in hand, but it is taking up no new work. It is not known exactly how. long tho finisliing-up process will occupy. It. is not correct to say that the Board has resigned, and that the Government. has accepted its resignation. Full information on this subject is noi at the moment to bo obtained in Wei- 1 lington, because Sir James Allen, the J Minister who has from tho beginning had most to do with the Board, is oot of town. As is generally known, tho Efficiency Board is an advisory body to a large extent, though each member, as Efficiency Commissioner in his own district, has discharged a certain amount of administrative work arising out of war conditions and the operations of the Military Service Act. In addition to its enquiry into tho liquor question, the Board alsn'conducted a comprehensive enquiry into the question of national education. This last-mentioned enquiry, though concluded as far as the taking of evi4 denco is concerned, is not yet quite finished. The Board also has had in hand matters connected with tho repatriation of the Dominion's soldiers on thoir return to New Zealand, and it is considered likely that this work will be continued for a month or so before the BoaHt actually goes out of office; or will be carried* on by the Efficiency Commissioner in each district.
