FRENCH AND SYRIANS.
GENERAL PATJ'S TRIBUTE. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, January 21. A delegation from the Syrian Society of Wellington called upon General Pau, of the French Missioii, tliis afternoon to bring to him the greetings of the Syrian residents on the victory of the Allies. They presented tho General with a very fine Maori-carved pipe as a memento of his visit here. „ General l'au expressed his most heart}' thanks for tho greetings of the Syrians, and reminded them that trachtional links of sympathy had always tied the French and the Syrians. Ho also thanked them for _tho proofs of friendship which tho Syrians had given to France, both in tho distant past and during the great war. and for the practical token of good "feeling which now Existed between the Syrians and the French.
