METHODIST CHURCH.
DURHAM STREET,
At the. quarterly meeting of the Durham street Methodist Church, the Kev. P. N. 1 Knight presided over a good attendance. The membership was reported as 294 adults and 22 juniors. During the quarter three members hod died. A motion of sympathy was passed to Air W. T. Thomas in the death of his wife. It bavinsr boen reported that the Rev. C. H. Garland, a previous superintendent of the circuit, had died during the quarter, the meeting' resolved to place on record its deep appreciation of the distinguished servioes rendered by him to the circuit, and the connexion at large, ond that a message of sympathy be sent to Mrs Garland and the other member* of the furaiK. In spite of the epidemic, which caueed the church to be closed for several Sundays, the balance-elioet showed a substantial credit balance for the quarter. Great satisfaction was expressed with the report for Home Missions, the circuit having contributed £143 17s 2d. The circuit also contributed £13S to Foreign Millions. After a lengthy and lively discussion regarding the appointment of a Sunday echoo! and Bible class organiser, it -was resolved: "That, in view of the unsatisfactory 'nature of the financial proposals, we recommend that th» whole question of the appointment of an organiser be rc—considered at the next Conference." - Messrs f'. Ilea_ and J. A. Fle»hcr v.ere unanimously Te-eiected circuit stewards. Col. G. J. Smith and Air E. C. Brown were c'ected representatives to Conference, with MeEsrs L. M. Isitt, M.P., and C. VT. Barre'.l as substitutes.
