Brake, of tho Royal Air Force, who has been home in Canterbury on furlough, left again last week for England, sailing in tho Tofua. Mrs T. C. Oldridge, Linwood, has received word that hor son, Trooper S. R. Oldridge, is being invalided back to New Zealand, and is expocted to arrive early next week.

Mr P. It- Cliniio, organiser of the Canterbury Progress League, leaves on Thursday for Akaroa, for the purpose of forming a branch of tho League thero the same night. Lieutenant G. B. Stevenson, who was second in command to Captain Purdon, of the Musketry Instruction Department at Trontham Camp, lias been transferred to Duiiedin as cliiof musketry instructor for tho Otago Military District. Wolls, Imperial Forces, has left Port Said for England. Captain Wells left New Zealand with the Main Body and has lately beon in Northern Persia with the "Dunster force. of the Caspian Soa. His brother, captain Edwin It. "Wells, M.C.. who was also with the Baku Expedition, was Duilding and fitting out a hospital for the force when last hoard from. Apropos the appointment of Mr G. E. Mannering to the position of manager of the Christchurch branch of the Union Bank, referred to in yesterday s issue, it should be mentioned that Air C. G. Ogilvie (who succooded Mr Bryant as manager here five years ago) lias been appointed to the position of inspector for the Bank in New Zealand. Mr Mannering, who succeeds Mr Ogilvio, ia well known in Christchurch. having been accountant in the Christchurch branch of the bank many years ago; he has also won repute as a mountaineer. The changes referred to above will not take place for about a month. Tho act of Colin Crowthcr, a schoolboy, who lost his life recently while trying to rescue a companion at Tauno, was brought under tho notice of the Board of Education at Auckland lasti week, with a request that it bo repotted to the Royal Hjimane Society.
