A Berlin wireless message states that the Spartacus strongholds in the Berlin, Press quarter were cleared after a sharp battle. The casualties, which, were high, were increased by the Spartacus_ supporters court-martialling and shooting Government troops, necessitating reprisals. The report that Rosa Luxemburg!* was_ arrested is not confirmed. Fighting for the Silesian railway station and other places is still going on. BUILDINGS EVACUATED. COPENHAGEN, January 13. JP'.J Berlin correspondent of the Daily Express" states that Hen* Hnasp. in an interview, declared that the election of the National Assembly would be helrl, but the date had not yet been decided unon. In his opinion the Mnioritv Socialists would not secure a mnioritv unless tliev combined with the Independent Socialists. i. ii n t hat all factories would be controlled bv the Soviets, although the trade unions would continue. PARTY DISSENSIONS. (Renter's Telegrams.) (Received Jami?rv 16th, 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, January 15. Reuter's Berlin correspondent states that the Assembly election campaign is in full swing. The revolution has greatly changed the old parties. The four main groups are, broadly, the Conservatives, Catholics, Liberals, and Socialists, but all are sailing under new flags. The majority Socialists' programme emphasises that the party only supported a defensive war. The Independent Socialists will co-operate with the Moderate Socialists at Munich, but not in Berlin, where the Independents include a more or less strong Left Wing, namely, the Communists, under Dr. Lieblcnecht. The Liberals have also had a split with their Left Wing, which is the strongest, comprising the German Democratic Party and the real Liberals from the former.
