A meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was . held last evening, Mr W. H. Tisdall presiding. The financial statement showed the receipts since last meeting to have been £208 • 11b 3d,\ and the expenditure £147 4a Gd, leaving . a credit balance of £61 6a 9d. 1 A letter from.the Department of Internal Affaire staled that a' letter from the Board of the Hurunui Rabbit Trustees had been received asking that stoats, weasels, and hawks should be protected, as they wer© the natural enemies, of rabbits. • _ On the motion of Mr Ia A. In reply to a letter from tlie Association, the Marine Department wrote to the effect that any Acclimatisation Society could prohibit the use of torches for- eel-fishing, a regulation governing which question had been passed in May last. All the Association had to do was to apply to the Department for the necessary permission. The secretary intimated that this course would immediately be taken. ' 1 1 The Curator reported on various matters "that had'been attended to during the pasrt month, and also recommended that as there was a very fair crop of cocksfoot at the old hatchery this season, it would pay better to cut it than to turn sheep, into it. The report went ■on that as the Canadian geese were now fully feathered, it would be advisable to turn them out at onoe, as they required considerable food. The report was adopted. The Deer Committee reported that it had considered applications for permits in the Rakaia Gorge, and to ballot for the licenses and blocks. .There had been 38 applications, and the following had been successful in. the ballots:—Messrs F. C. Archer, H. J. Harrison, -H. J. and E. L. Nitz, E. J.' Herrick, J. Taylor, H. Bennett, R. Kibblewhiie, V. E. Donald, R. UrquhaTt, T. S. and C. T. Jeesop, G. arid W. G. Gerard, G. Sutherland, and J. Bayly and partner. The report was adopted. On the recommendation of the Gardens Committee it was decided to connect the dru-in at the Curator's house with the main drain. Mr E. M. Caffin was appointed a member of the Council in place of the late Mr H. M. Cotton. It was decided, on the recommendation of the Garden Committee, to put down a concrete dam in the top pond in the Society's grounds to raise the water to a level suitable for flowing into the hatchery.
