After spending about a week in Southland, they will procoed to the Cold Lakes district, where the greater part of the vacation will be spent. Mr W. McAuliffe, manager of the Lyttelton Municipal Gasworks, has returned from a. holiday visit to Dunedin. The Lyttelton Marino Band has not yet sccured the sen-ices of a permanent conductor to take the place of the late Lieutenant W. Sullivan, but in tho meantime the position is being filled by Mr A< Heath, of ChristcHurcli. BOWLING. The recent changeable weather has wrought havoc with the local bowling green. Frequent showers, followed by winds, and . scorching sunshine, have made the green ' patchy in placcs, and it v.'ill require must careful attention to restore it to its previous good order. PUBLIC SEATS. It has been suggested that more summer Beats might advantageously be erected at various vantage points overlooking the harbour, especially in places along the Governor's Buy road. The' activities of mischievous boys in damairijiir some of the seats (hat havo already been erected have doubtless deterred the Borough L/iuncii trom taking further action in the direction indicated, but the fact that the present seats have been built for comfort rather than durability suggests that more solidly-built seat*, would meet the case.
