♦ EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AT ACID WORKS. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, January 14. A serious firo occurred oarly this morning at Kempthorne. Prosser, and Co.'s acid works, at Burnside. One large acid chamber was completely gutted, hut the rest of the buildings were saved. Tho only additional loss was. through the escape of acid in an adjoining building, caused by the melting of tho pipes. • After inspection by the directors, the damage was estimated approximately at.jClO.OOO^or £12,000. The insurances covering trie part of the works destroyed amount to £10,000, divided among different offices. The companv expects to resume the manufacture of acid, in about a fort-night's time. The fertiliser plant and the stock of manufactured fertilisers were 110 L affected by the fire.
