CORRESPONDENCE.
GERMAN PIANOS. TO TUB EDITOR OF "THE FRESS." Sir,—The following paragraph appeared in vour issue ol' October 24th, 1918, "I was talking to a Christchurcn. I>usivnoss man the other clay, and lie sa-id ho "was just waiting for the war to be over to be able to import pianos from Germany again, they were the best pianos in the world. So stated a speaker at the annual meeting of the Central Chamber of Commerce, at "Wellington, on <Monday night." Since October 31st I have heen in communication with the secretary of the Central Chamber of Commerce in regard to the matter, as I felt that a statement of this kind was an undeserved reflection on the patriotism of the piano dealers as a whole in Christchurch. To-day I received a comunication from the secretary stating that the correspondence had been placed before his council, and the following resolution was passed:— "That a reply be sent yon stating that the utterance was that of a member of the Chamber made in general meeting, and that the council, as a council, could not accept responsibility for a statement so made." Now, Sir, I maintain the member responsible for the "utterance should, in justice to the Christchurch piano dealers, publish the name of the business man responsible for the sentiments expressed.—Yours, etc., WILLIAM U. WEBLEY. January 13th.
