CASUALTIES.

Mr Charles Hoi, of Southbndge; wab found 1 dead on Sunday morning about two miles from, the Ashley .Gorge bridge. He had been camping at Ashley Gorge, and left camp on Saturday morning, and as he failed to return that day, a search was made, with the above result. Death 'is believed to have been due to exposure. An inquest will be held at East Oxford. Mrß W. Corbett, of Racecourse road, Ashburton, met with a serious accident while being driven' in a gig. on the Belt road on Sunday afternoon. .The horse stopped to drink at a watorrace, and on starting again' the driver gave the animal a sharp cut with a whip. The horse immediately commenced to kick, with the result that the king bolt snapped and the swingle tree dropped down and dangled about the animal's hocks. Mrs Corbett jumped i out of the gig with a child in her arms, and ■ suffered a fracture of a' leg above the "knee and also a bad flesh wound. The child escaped serious injury, as did the driver. Mrs Corbett was conveyed to the county hospital, where her injuries were attended to, and late yesterday afternoon she was reported to ' be progressing favourably. ' The infant daughter of Mr L. Giles, Cam road, Kaiapoi, was badly scalded yesterday evening by the upsetting of a kettle of boiling water. The child was attended to by Dr. Crawshaw and afterwards removed' to the Cnristchurch Hospital. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 13. On entering the Automatic bakeries yesterday morning the foreman found the body of a iireman. ramed George Adams suspended from a rafter with a 'wire rope round his neck. Death was due to strangulation. Adams was fortyfour years of age, was married, and had two children. He left a note near the body, bidding his wife good-bje. A young man named Stanley Godfrey, who was accidentally shot in the back while rabbiting near the park yesterday, was brought by ambulance to the city hospital. His condition is serious. A young Chinaman _ named Yufu met with a serious accident while riding a cycle down Thompson street, one of the steepest streets in the city. He lost control of the machine and collided with a fence, the rider being thrown over the fence, head first, against the wall of a house. Ho was removed to the hospital, suffering from concussion of the brain, and his condition is serious. A head-on collision between two mo-tor-cars at Levin on Saturday resulted in. the driver of one "of them, Charles Cottor, a resident of Levin, being seriously injured. The occupants of both cars were thrown out. Cotter was taken to the hospital. Cyril Beasley, of the "Truth" staff, the occupant of the second car, who was en route to the Foilding races, was badly shaken.
