COUNTY COUNCILS.
WAIMAIRI. The • Waimairi County Council met las! evening:. Present—Messrs S. A. Staples (chairman), W. P. Spencer, J. P. W. Lee, J, A. S. Uren, .T. Cleland, C. Cross, C. W Hcrvey, W. J. Walter, and F. Sis-son. A deputation, consisting of Messrs J. H Bowse' and J. Lindlcy, representing the Burwood Patriotic Association, waited on th< Cfiuncil with a request that the Council cede to tho Association n section situated at tin corner of River road and Lake terrace, Bur \ • wood, to enable the Association to erect or it'a memorial to thoee soldiers from the district who had fallen in the war. After the deputation had retired the mat tor was considered by the Council, and i 'was decided that the matter should be helc in abeyance until the Council had inspectc* the' section. 'It was decided to make the annual in spection of the county on Thursday, Januar; - SOth, commencing at 9.30 a.m. A complaint was received as to the due . nuisance caused by the training on the tracl bordering on Wright's road. It *as decidec to writo to the Trotting Club asking then to use their water cart daily. Only one tender, that of Knox and Jacob at £3 per chain, wae received for the forma ticm of tho footpath on Marshl&nd road, fron Briggs Toad to Goodman's. Th© chairman er.id this worked out at £363. It was decide* not to accept tho tender, but to call for the carting of th© sand required and tha the engineer, supply an estimate of the cost o the kerbing. Upon tho motion of Mr Cross tho clerl was instructed to supply a report on the cos of the main roads in th© different ridings the matter to be discussed at the epecia meeting of the Council. Mr* Cross referred to what he termed th« disgraceful state of th© Yaldhurst and Russley reads, ahd upon his motion a deputation, consisting of the chairman, Mr G. E. Carrie, nnd himself, were appointed to wait upoi the Papania County Council to urge them to improvements. TAWERA. At the last meeting of the Tawera Countj Council Messrs Seymour (chairman), Atkinson, Millar, and Rutherford wer© present. Mr Seymour wae unanimously re-elected chairman. The balance-eheet for the last half-year was submitted to the meeting and passed subject. to audit. It was decided that Tlniraday in each week e&oruld continue to be the statutory lialiLolidAy. The chairman moved a vote of sympathy with the family of th© late Mr George Rutherford, who was for many years chairman of the Malvern Road Board, and repre•ented_ the district on the Selwyn County ■ Council, and was on© of tho pioneers of ' local governments He had also taken a keen interest in all kinds of sport, and, in fact, ) everything that tended to the welfare of th© distract. -The motion was passed in silence, and th© olcr&.was instructed to send this expression of th© Council's feelings to the deceased gentletaan's family. . Messrs Redpath and Leitch, representing the' Mount Tdrlesee Collieries, interviewed t)ie Council on th© question of borrowing . money- for th© purpose of building a township at Avocai After discussing some of the details of th© proposition, it was decided to postpone a decision until further informotiah'.was obtained; vote of thanks was passed to all •hoi® ■ workers who bad assisted during tho roflnenza epidemic, and more especially to jars Pike, who had don© yeoman service in the-district.
