A military funeral was accorded on Saturday to the late Private Maurice William Ryan, of the 25 th Reinforcements. -who died in Christchurch on Thur.sdav. The funeral took pace at the. Lipwood Cemetery. Tho coffin, draped with the Union Jack, was boino on a gun-carriage, the bearers bf'H'K six members of tho Returned Soldieis Association. Tho Association also provided a filing party of 12 inon, which was under Sergeant-Major Keen, of the Defence Department. The "Last Post" was sounded hv another returned man, Bugler Aitkcn. Mr N. Toohill, of tho Public Works Department, and now stationed at Otira, has received advice that bis brother "Dan," who "left with the 7th Reinforcements, is making a very speedy recovery from tho wounds no received in IVanc© early in October of last year, and is expected to leave New Zealand at an early date. bcrgeant Toohill, who is an ex-pupil of the Marist Brothers' schools at Auckland .and Wellington, and also of St. Patrick's College, was for years wellknown in the athletic lii© of Zealand. He represented Wellington. Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa, and Tarnnaki in both Northern .Union and Rugby football, and was also wellknown in musical circles. Prior to enlisting Sergeant Toohill was employed in the Public Works Department at Wellington. He is the, fourth son of the late Mr Patrick Toohill, who met his death last vear through the burning of tho Wellington Hotel. Mr S. P. Guincy, the Schoolliouse, Halswell, received a message yesterday from the Defence Department, Sydney, stating that his third son. Driver W. P. Guiney, would arrivo in Australia shortly. Mrs Buckland, of Akaroa, has received advico that her son, Corporal Alfred u'. Buckland, will arrivo with draft 208. Ho enlisted in tho Auckland Mounted Rifles, and left with the Slain iiodv in November, 1914, and has served in tho Dardanelles, Egypt, and Palestine. .
