A British Mission has proceeded) north of tlx; Caucasus to assist tho authorities in quelling civil disorders. In view of criticisms of Allied intervention in Russia and tho demand for withdrawal, it. is pointed out thai the expeditions were solely aimed against the Germans, in order to prevent a further transfer of troops to the West front, and stop the penetration of Russia, enabling Germany tp nbsorb her resources in minerals, foodstuffs, and oil. Although our effort in Russia -yvi.s necessarily weak, it considerably assisted in Germany's overthrow. The Germans withdrew forty-eight divisions westward from the date the Bolshevists assumedi power. These withdrawals entirely ceased for three months after the Allies landed at Arch an gp], and were only resumed when tho weakness of the Allied contingents was discovered. BOLSHEVIST GUARDS.
